Dave and Candy with their family
Many of you know me as a long time resident of Senate District 42.
My husband Dave and I have been involved in our local politics for over 30 years.
I would like to share with you why I am running for state senate.
My husband Dave and I have been married for over 30 years.
We have five grown children and twelve grandchildren.
Dave’s family has lived in Shoreview for 6 generations, well before the incorporation of the city, where Dave’s grandparents owned and operated Schifsky’s Beach on Turtle Lake.
All five of our children are graduates of the Mounds View School District.
We now have six of our grandchildren attending Mounds View schools.
As a wife, mother, business owner, and someone with deep roots in this community, I know first hand the challenges facing our families, our schools, our businesses and our communities.
I’m no different than any other mother or grandmother trying to provide more hope for my children and grandchildren.
I support solid, academic education for our youth and that the responsibility for our children’s education should be left in the hands of the parents and the local schools.
I oppose Common Core and will commit to repealing Common Core and its standards.
Families need to be given options regarding
Bill of Rights
the education of their children, including home schooling, public or private education.
I’m running for the Senate because our state has lost track of what’s important in people’s lives, freedom, joy and contentment.
I believe that all people want to experience peace, joy and contentment in their lives and the lives of their families.
To do so, they must be free from government control as much as possible.
I believe that there are a lot of people today that are in a state of hopelessness.
It is my belief that government has been largely responsible for robbing our citizens of hope in many areas of their lives, including economic, social and moral areas.
We need to make some real changes in how government operates and make it adhere to and follow the specific powers granted to it by the people and our U.S. and Minnesota constitutions.
Our government was not set up to do what it pleases, whenever it pleases and disregard the rule of law.
I have a son who is courageously serving as a Major in the United States Army and Minnesota National Guard.
Not only am I proud to have been a Blue Star mom, I am proud of all our brave men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line daily to keep us a free nation.
You can count on me to fight for them as an advocate for outreach and other support programs for our disabled and homeless veterans.

REPRESENTING YOUR FAMILY VALUES
My campaign is based on 3 important priorities
Family – Freedom – Life
These priorities are based on the primary purpose of government, which is to protect the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness of all of it’s citizens.
I oppose government reaching more and more into the lives of the people and taking away these inalienable rights and freedoms.
I come from a family of 11, 3 brothers and 7 sisters.
I grew up in the Como Park area of St. Paul.
I had to develop responsibility at an early age as my older sister and I had to take care of our younger siblings because my parents had to work one or more jobs to support our family.
At the age of 16, I started working for my family dentist and have worked in this healthcare profession for most of my life.
I obtained certification in dental assisting and later went back to school and obtained my degree from the University of Northwestern in Arden Hills.
I am also a business owner that specializes in setting up HIPAA compliance programs for dentists.
I have first-hand experience with how detrimental excessive government regulations can be to the healthcare industry, imposing great financial burdens on individuals and families.
Candy with her brothers and sisters
I am a registered American Indian, being a member of the Pebinaw Band of the Chippewa Tribe.
My ancestors settled in northern Minnesota. I am thankful that they were industrious, hard working and endeavored to build a better life for themselves and their families.
I am devoted to upholding and defending traditional core values that represent the interests of everyday Minnesotans.
Today, I believe that the family is in the middle of an identity crisis, no longer sure of who we are or where we are headed.
We don’t know if it is OK to be proud to be an American and a Minnesotan and all the good that it represented or if we should be ashamed of our heritage and apologize for our existence.
I believe that our citizens are ridiculed for their stand that protecting the life of an unborn child is an inalienable right given to us by our Creator.
I firmly believe in the inalienable right to life given to us by our U.S. and State Constitutions.
I believe that life begins at conception and is to be valued and preserved from conception until natural death, deserving full protection under the law. I believe that abortion is wrong and takes a human life as well as leaving lifelong scars on the man and woman.
I am committed to advancing and upholding the principles of constitutionalism, limited government, free enterprise and individual liberty.
- I am focused on restoring fiscal responsibility to our state. We need to eliminate many wasteful spending programs as well as programs that allow for widespread fraud.
- I am a strong proponent of fewer, simpler and more cost effective government regulations. Such conditions encourage competition, higher productivity, greater efficiency and ultimately lower prices in the marketplace.
- Today I believe that the citizens of Minnesota are under attack by our state trying to control all aspects of our lives, from cradle to grave. I believe that our citizens want to live their lives free from government control as much as possible. I will fight to achieve these freedoms.
I believe that abortion is wrong, and not only takes a human life, but leaves lifelong scars on the woman and man involved in such a decision.
I am unapol-ogetically pro-life. I believe that life is to be valued and preserved from conception until natural death, as one of our inalienable rights.
Every life is precious and should be protected.
It is a disgrace to our nation that we have allowed over 55,000,000 innocent babies to be killed by abortion and their body parts to be sold.
I support putting an end to taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.

I support the deregulation of health care and the repeal of MNsure.
Health care mandates in our state drive up the cost of coverage and require additional costs for health care that many enrollees never use or can afford.
The state should allow individuals to purchase a policy with fewer mandates that are more tailored to their needs and financial situation.
A stunning report, made on January 28, 2016 by the Office of Legislator’s Auditor (OLA) on the report on the Department of Human Services for Public Programs revealed that between January and May 2015 there were more than 80,000 MNsure enrollees that weren’t eligible for benefits at a cost of between $115,000,000 and $271,000,000 to the Minnesota taxpayer.
This report proves that MNsure, as it exists, is a failure and is beyond repair.
Governor Dayton called it the “biggest disappointment” of his first term.
Candy Interacting with Seniors
There are seven states today that assess income tax to Social Security benefits.
Minnesota is one of them.
The Minnesota House Research Department finds that 85% of Social Security benefits are subject to federal and state taxes.
Minnesota ranks as the 2nd. worst state for retirees in the country due to inordinately aggressive tax policies.
Taxing the Social Security benefits of retirees is a sure way to guarantee that they will flee Minnesota in droves.
I oppose the taxing of the Social Security benefits of retirees, as the monies paid to the government by seniors over the course of their working careers belongs to them and not the state.
I will fight to repeal state taxes on social security income.
